    More than 2000 slum dwellers, homeless and other urban deprived communities with the demand to enact a comprehensive new Slum law to provide land and housing rights commenced the rally from Town Hall  Bangalore . Arul Das Vijaya sung motivational cultural songs
    The public meeting at Freedom Park was graced with the presence of Prof. Babu Mathew, Chairperson of Public Policy, NLSIU, Prof. Maralu Siddappa, Scholar, Advocate Balan, CITCCU, representatives of Slum Janara Sangatanegala Okkoota Karnataka, Jansi, Chandramma, Issac Amurutharaj, Lakshmi, Selva, Rajendran Prabhakar, Kasthuri and Geetha Menon, Domestic workers Rights Union.
    Prof. Babu Mathew, he proposed a slum act as many features in which non-evictions, issuance of land titles to slum dwellers and social justice to be ensured. The entire act is not the usual anglo saxant method but has followed the framework of continental that is nearer to Social justice framework.
    Prof. Maralu Sidappa, reminded of the present status where the rich and the elite class not even bothered of coexistence of large number of slums in inhuman conditions. The demands of the slum dwellers is not only legitimate but it is bound by spirit of social justice.
    Karnataka  housing minister Mr.M Krishnappa, graced the occasion with his presence and received the memorandum submitted by the movement and assured that he will study the law and take necessary action.
    Narasimhamurthy,  warned the political parties their gimmicks  of slum tour and residing at slums with five star arrangements won’t cut the ice as the communities living in slums have seen enough of such dramas. There is an urgency in bringing in the comprehensive slum law through ordinance is important as the slum dwellers have seen many governments till now just escaping their responsibility and will continue struggle.

    Lakshmi, Kamakhya slum, “We are living on the street for last 8 years, our women and girls have no protection”.
    Kasthuri, Tharagupet slum, “We have no access to cauvery water, in the small house joint family of 7 persons live”
    Kausalya, Jolly Mohalla slum, “We know that the hakkupatra given to us is not ensuring our right over our land, the state should provide Sudha Kriya Patra (Absolute sale deed) ensuring our right over land and also build dignified housing”. Akram hasan SDPI Karnataka state secretary participated in rally and public programme extended sdpi support to rights of slum dwellers movement.
    Issac Amurutharaj, convenor of Slum Janara Sangatane Karnataka, thanked all the guests and the slum dwellers for their participation, contribution towards expenses and their involvement in raising voices on behalf of other slum dwellers out there.
