SDPI Karnataka Participates in Pre-Budget Consultation Meeting for State Budget 2026; Reiterates Demand for a People-Centric and Equitable Budget

In connection with the State Budget–2026, a pre-budget preparatory consultation meeting organized by the Department of Minority Welfare was successfully held at Maulana Azad Bhavan, Bengaluru. The meeting witnessed the participation of leaders from various religious, social, and organizational bodies representing minority communities, along with senior state leaders and government officials.
A delegation of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), Karnataka, actively participated in the meeting and presented detailed recommendations on several crucial schemes and programs required for the comprehensive development of minority communities. The SDPI delegation emphasized the need for inclusive policies that ensure social justice and equal opportunities.
Key issues related to education, employment, healthcare, housing, scholarships, promotion of self-employment, women’s empowerment, and social security were discussed at length. Through direct consultations with ministers and senior departmental officials, SDPI strongly underlined the necessity of formulating a people-oriented and equality-driven budget that reflects the real needs and aspirations of marginalized communities.
The meeting served as an important platform to bring the voices of minority communities into the policy-making process and to reinforce the protection of constitutional rights and social justice.
SDPI reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to consistently and courageously placing the concerns of the people before the government and to continuing its struggle for the rights, dignity, and equal opportunities of minorities and backward sections of society.

Background: People’s Budget Initiative by SDPI
During the previous budget session, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) prepared and presented a People’s Budget with the objective of placing the genuine needs and aspirations of the common people before the government. This People’s Budget focused on key issues directly impacting the lives of the poor, minorities, backward classes, workers, farmers, youth, and women, and included practical policy recommendations.
In support of the People’s Budget, SDPI organized a massive protest and public demonstration at Freedom Park, Bengaluru. This democratic movement went beyond symbolic protest and served as a powerful expression of people’s participation in governance.
On this occasion, the Honorable Minister for Housing, Wakf, and Minority Welfare, Shri Zameer Ahmed Khan, who visited the protest venue as the government’s representative, was formally presented with an official copy of the People’s Budget by SDPI leaders. A memorandum was also submitted urging the government to seriously consider the proposals and implement people-friendly and equitable policies.
By submitting the People’s Budget, SDPI once again reaffirmed its clear political position:
“The budget must be for the people and shaped by the people,” and
“People’s lives must remain at the center of governance.”
SDPI continues to place people’s issues before the government not merely through speeches, but through concrete policy documents. This initiative marks a significant milestone in SDPI’s ongoing struggle for a people-oriented budget and social justice.
