Ullal / Dubai:
A Delhi-based family trapped in severe hardship for nearly three years in Dubai experienced an extraordinary act of humanity thanks to the intervention of Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker U. T. Khadar and his brother Dr. U. T. Ifthikar Fareed.
The crisis began when a young pregnant woman in the family was rushed to the hospital due to severe complications. Her baby was born prematurely and required intensive medical care for nearly three months. By the end of treatment, the hospital bill reached 600,000 dirhams (approximately ₹1.3 crore). The financially struggling family could manage to pay only 200,000 dirhams.
Due to the unpaid balance of 400,000 dirhams, the hospital imposed a travel ban on the family, leaving them distressed and without any means to return home.
During this desperate period, the family sought help from Congress Party youth leader U. B. Saleem Ullal, who immediately brought the matter to the attention of U. T. Khadar and Dr. U. T. Ifthikar.
Moved by the family’s suffering, the UT brothers personally contacted the hospital’s Chairman, Dr. Azad Moopan, and explained the family’s situation. With persistent follow-up and negotiation by U. B. Saleem, a compassionate resolution was reached.
Humanitarian Outcome
• The travel ban on the family was completely lifted.
• The outstanding bill of 400,000 dirhams was fully waived.
This remarkable gesture restored hope and stability to a family caught in a life-altering crisis.
The UT family has a long legacy of public service. The late U. T. Fareed served five terms as MLA from the Mangalore Constituency in coastal Karnataka. His son, U. T. Khadar, is now a five-time MLA and currently serves as Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Dr. U. T. Ifthikar is the Chairman of the Karnataka State Allied and Healthcare Council. The family is widely recognized for their commitment to social welfare, irrespective of caste, community, or political affiliation.

ದುಬೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದ ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ತೀವ್ರ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಲುಕಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ದೆಹಲಿ ಮೂಲದೊಬ್ಬ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ, ಮಾನವೀಯತೆಯ ನಿಜವಾದ ಅರ್ಥ ತೋರಿಸಿದವರು UT ಸಹೋದರರು.
ಗರ್ಭಾವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ತೀವ್ರ ನೋವಿನಿಂದ ಬಳಲುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಯುವತಿಯನ್ನು ತುರ್ತುವಾಗಿ ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆಗೆ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಯಿತು. ವಿಧಿಯಾಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಗು ಪ್ರಿ-ಮ್ಯಾಚ್ಯೂರ್ ಆಗಿ ಜನಿಸಿ ಅಂಗವೈಕಲ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಗಾಯಿತು. ಸುಮಾರು ಮೂರು ತಿಂಗಳು ನಿರಂತರ ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆ ಪಡೆದು ಬದುಕಿಗಾಗಿ ಹೋರಾಡಿತು.
ಚಿಕಿತ್ಸೆಯ ಅಂತ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ, ಒಟ್ಟು 6 ಲಕ್ಷ ದಿರ್ಹಾಂ (ಸುಮಾರು ₹1.3 ಕೋಟಿ) ಬಿಲ್ ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ದುರ್ಬಲವಾದ ಈ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ 2 ಲಕ್ಷ ದಿರ್ಹಾಂ ಮಾತ್ರ ಪಾವತಿಸಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಾಯಿತು. ಉಳಿದ 4 ಲಕ್ಷ ದಿರ್ಹಾಂ ಬಾಕಿಯಾಗಿರುವ ಕಾರಣ, ಆಸ್ಪತ್ರೆ ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಮೇಲೆ ಟ್ರಾವೆಲ್ ಬ್ಯಾನ್ ಹೇರಿತು. ಇದರಿಂದ ಕುಟುಂಬ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಸಂಕಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬದುಕು ಬಿಟ್ಟಂತಾಯಿತು.
ಈ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕುಟುಂಬವು UB Saleem Ullala ಅವರನ್ನು ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿತು. ಕುಟುಂಬದ ನೋವನ್ನು ಮನಗಂಡ ಅವರು ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು UT Iftikar ಮತ್ತು UT Khadarರವರಿಗೆ ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು.
ವಿಷಯ ತಿಳಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣ, UT Iftikar ಮತ್ತು UT Khadar ರವರು Hospitalನ Chairman ಗೌರವಾನ್ವಿತ Dr. Azad Moopan ರವರನ್ನು ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಸಂಪರ್ಕಿಸಿ, ಕುಟುಂಬದ ಗಂಭೀರ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ವಿವರಿಸಿದರು. UB Saleem ರವರು ನಿರಂತರವಾಗಿ ಹೋರಾಡಿ, ಮಾತುಕತೆಗಳನ್ನು ಮುಂದುವರಿಸಿದರು.

ಈ ದಾನಶೀಲತೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮಾನವೀಯ ಸೇವೆ ನಿಜವಾಗಿಯೂ ಮೆಚ್ಚುಗೆಗೆ ಪಾತ್ರವಾದದ್ದು. ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಲುಕಿದ ಕುಟುಂಬಕ್ಕೆ ಅವರು ಹೊಸ ಬದುಕಿನ ದಾರಿ ತೆರೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
