Mangalore: Blood donation is not only a social thought of saving another’s life, it also has many benefits for the donor. By donating blood, a person’s fat, cholesterol levels are reduced, heart becomes safe. New cells are produced and the immune system increases, said Senior Pathologist of Wenlock District Hospital Regional Blood Transfusion Centre Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao J.
He spoke as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Blood Donation Camp organized in collaboration with Lions Club Highland, Student Union, NCC (Army and Navy), NSS, Youth Red Cross and Wen Lock District Hospital at Ravindra Kalabhavan of University College, here on Saturday. Lions Club Highland President Lion Devika Somashekhar said that under the leadership of Lion NJ Nagesh, 248 blood donation camps have been conducted so far.
Lion NJ Nagesh MJF said that blood donation is a great way to show humanity. He informed that a card and a certificate is given for blood donors, which helps them to get one unit of blood urgently for the next 6 months. Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai presided over the program.
Deputy Director of Student Union Prof. Latha. A Pandit welcomed the guests. NCC (Navy) Officer Prof. Yathish Kumar extended vote of thanks. Youth Red Cross Officer Dr. Bharathi Pilar mastered the ceremony. NCC Officer (Army) Dr. Jayaraj N, NSS officers Dr. Gayathri N and Dr. Suresh, office bearers of student union, medical staff of Wenlock Hospital were present among others. Meanwhile, more than 52 people donated blood.
